Police Finally Opens Up On Bobi Wine And Amuriat’s Arrest

After a long wait and strong demands from the public, the police have finally given a reason for the arrest of Bobi Wine and Amuriat. They said the arrest of NUP’s Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine and FDC’s Patrick Amuriat was because they defied police directives.

The last day of the presidential nominations saw tear gas, bullets, and arrests. This ended with Kyagulanyi and Amuriat both arrested. The police arrested them immediately after their nomination respectively. Police said their arrest was inevitable.

However, in a police statement, they defended their actions as inevitable to restore law and order.

“Amuriat blatantly defied the traffic flow plan agreed upon from his home in Najera to Kyambogo. He instead opted to proceed to Najjanankumbi to lead a delegation of over 2000 supporters. In total disregard of the Electoral and Health SOPs. He, however, was safely transported to Kyambogo,’’ Fred Enanga said.

In another incident, police had to break into Kyagulanyi’s vehicle and violently pick him out. They then forced him into a police vehicle. They whisked him away to his home where his supporters were waiting for him but police dispersed them with tear gas.

On Bobi’s arrest after nomination

Police said that Kyagulanyi had followed the SOPs successfully but after his nomination, he refused to accept directives leading to his arrest. Police claimed that he had plans to hold illegal processions from Kyambogo to Kamwokya NUP Headquarters.

During this scuffle, three security personnel and four civilians sustained injuries. Two vehicles were also damaged.

Enanga urged all voters to know that it is their democratic right to support a candidate of their own choice. They should, therefore, avoid violent confrontations.

This could possibly get out of control between them and rival political factions, as well as law enforcement agencies.
