Police In Rukungiri Arrest 4 Suspects Over Assault And Death Of 70-Year-Old Man

The Police in Rukungiri are investigating circumstances surrounding the death of a 70-year-old man. The deceased has been identified as Geoffrey Kibiiri, a resident of Kibura village, Bwanda parish, Buhunga Sub-county in Rukungiri district.

Apparently, on August 20, 2022, Geoffrey left his home at around 6pm heading for Canon bar approximately 200m from his home to drink alcohol. At 11:00pm of the same day, the deceased made his way back to his home drunk.

When he got home, he claimed that a group of unidentified people ambushed and assaulted him on his way back home. On the 21st August 2022 at around 7:00pm, he became ill and they rushed him to a clinic at Omukagando trading center where he died from.

According to ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, the incident was reported and a case of murder preferred.

Maate said that the police visited the secondary scene at the home of the deceased to document it. They then took the body to Rwakabengo Health Center III mortuary for Postmortem examination. This is to ascertain the actual cause of death.

ASP Maate also said they arrested suspects, Blair Ahabyoona 19, Peter Twinamatsiko 24, Hillary Muramuzi 19 and Niwenyesiga Mukama 23 all of Buhunga sub-county. They recorded the case of murder by assault at Rukungiri CPS under reference number CRB 812/2022.

In a similar incident, the police in Rukungiri arrested two suspects after their Mother’s body turned up and appeared to have been strangled to death. Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman Elly Maate identified the two suspects as Christopher Turyahebwa and John Twinamatsiko.

The two are residents of Nyamambo village Kibirizi parish Buhunga sub-county in Rukungiri District. Their deceased mother, Norah Bitamu, also lived at the same address.

I was informed that I needed to have a business with a capital of Shs4m yet my capital was very small.” The chairperson Kisoboka Saving Group in Nawandala Ms. Nakagolo Faith said they were not able to join the program. This is given the many conditions attached. She also asked their woman MP to raise their concerns to the relevant offices. The MP condemned the mode of implementation of the program. She cited that it has turned to benefit the well-off class of women other than the intended group. She further asked the government to intervene saying the current strings attached to the programme are very tight to accommodate a common woman. GROW project is a Government of Uganda initiative that arose out of the need to respond to the needs of women entrepreneurs. This is especially those who want to grow their businesses, sustain their self-employment and create more jobs.
