Police spokesperson Fred Enanga said such incidents violate Covid-19 guidelines putting lives of people at risk.
“We are going to use our crowd dispersal methods to ensure that we polish these areas,’’ Enanga said.
He also encouraged the candidates to ensure that they strictly follow all the guidelines that have been put in place. The police is doing this in an effort to curb the spread of the pandemic but not tightening the freedom of the candidates.
The joint task force reminds candidates about every crucial guideline that they need to follow. The task force said it will put emphasis on timing to ensure that all campaigns happen in the stipulated time. Candidates must not carry out campaigns on the roadsides.
Enanga noted that all activities done outside these timings between 7AM-6PM will attract enforcement action from the joint security task force.
Campaigns for the presidential candidates and those seeking directly elected parliamentary seats officially started yesterday.
Police strictly prohibits candidates from holding mass rallies; they will only hold meetings of not more than 200 people.
This is one of the guidelines put across by the Electoral Commission to curb the spread of the coronavirus.
