“It has come to our notice that motorcycles (boda bodas) have become a menace on our roads. Every time we have five crashes on the road, four of them involve motorcycles and many people die. As we launch the festive season operations we are to start with motorcycles on November 7,” Nampiima said.
She asked Ugandans to be part of this move to stop Boda boda crashes.
“We urge all Ugandan to stand with us to fight crashes by boda bodas. The boda bodas don’t obey traffic signs and regulations. We need to ensure we enforce the law so that they follow rules and regulations.”
This has come after the directive of Speaker Anita Among to the police to reign down on boda boda riders.
She said the police should also find long-term solutions to solve the issue of road carnage. She says they should tighten enforcement and traffic guidelines to curb errant road users.
The Uganda Police recently published a video that showed the various accidents that have been caused by Boda Boda men.
This, however, will not be the first time for police to do this inspection on Boda Bodas. There have been a lot of attempts to constrain Boda Bodas from riding recklessly but they have so far not done much.
