Political Turmoil Unfolds In Uganda’s Parliament

A brewing storm in Uganda’s Parliament has been ignited by accusations against the Patrick League of Uganda (PLU) leadership. A group of legislators claimed that they secretly met with Jotham Taremwa, who is running against Wilson Kajwengye, the Chairperson of the Defense and Internal Affairs Committee.

The clandestine meeting has sparked suspicion among lawmakers, especially as the committee is preparing to summon Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Commander of the Defense Forces.

MP Luttamaguzi Ssemakula and MP Ronald Balimwezo expressed concerns about the potential ulterior motives behind the meeting, hinting at a larger plot to remove the Defense Committee boss.

Questioning the PLU’s motives and influence

Controversy swirls around the involvement of the Patriotic League of Uganda in the committee’s internal affairs.

The meeting between PLU Secretary General David Kabanda, PLU mobiliser Michael Mawanda Maranga, and Jotham Taremwa has raised eyebrows, leading to speculation about the PLU’s true intentions and the extent of their influence on the committee’s proceedings.

Amidst the ongoing debate and allegations, the Defense Committee’s decision to summon Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba has taken a backseat.

The General is expected to address inquiries regarding his controversial social media posts. However, with the alleged interference by the PLU, the committee’s ability to carry out its duties effectively has been called into question, jeopardizing the integrity of their work.

In other news by NEWSLEXPOINT.com, the Finance Committee of Parliament took a bold stance by rejecting tax exemption requests from various companies last year, sparking a crucial debate on the rationale behind such exemptions and their impact on fairness and effective tax collection in Uganda.

State Minister for Finance, Henry Musasizi, presented a compelling case before the committee, chaired by Amos Kankunda, advocating for eight companies seeking a total of Shs 13.391 billion in tax exemptions.
