“Sending a text that construes sexual intentions is punishable,” states Dr. Annette Kezaabu Kasimbazi, the chairperson of the Pornography Control Committee.
According to Kezaabu, sending a sex message or ‘sexting’ is an act of porn and therefore illegal.
Last month, Lokodo said the porn detection machine that cost Shs300m will arrive in the country very soon and with it, the committee will monitor and sensitise people about the dangers of porn.
Mid last year, Parliament approved a Shs2.6bn budget to institute a Pornography Control Committee and purchase a machine to detect pornographic content in the country.
The committee’s job is to ensure that the perpetrators of pornography are apprehended and prosecuted, promote rehabilitation of individuals, families, communities etc. affected by porn.
It is also charged with collecting and destroying pornographic objects/material with assistance of police as provided for by the Anti-pornography Act, 2014.
