Preparations For FIFA World Cup 2022 Dream Underway For Uganda Cranes

Uganda Cranes started their preparations for the grueling FIFA World Cup 2022 qualifiers. They kicked off the training with a double training session at Kabira Country Club, Bukoto in Kampala on Monday.

They will be contesting against Kenya on 2nd September 2021 in Nairobi city.

At the first training session, 20 of the 30 summoned players showed up for the morning two-hour session dominated by physical drills. There were also some stretches and some ball work.

Three-thirds of the locally summoned players turned up for the session conducted by the head coach Milutin ‘’Micho’’ Sredojevic.

Also in presence was the physical fitness coach Frank Plaine and Fred Kajoba Kisitu, the Goalkeeping coach.

For well-known reasons, the KCCA and Express players did not show up at the training. This is because they were just arriving in the country from the CECAFA Kagame Cup in Dar es Salaam city.

Micho hinted at the need to fine-tune the players’ bodies after a lengthy period of inactivity because of the Coronavirus pandemic-fueled lockdown.

‘’We start a campaign with a task ahead of us of fine-tuning the players’ bodies. Even a journey of 1000 miles begins with a single step. This is the journey that we start,’’ Micho stated.

Some of the players even admitted that the long break has affected them but they will strive to play catch up.

Later on Monday evening, the team conducted another two-hour session at the MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo. Unlike the opening session, lots of ball workouts and game situation training made up the evening session.

Before the team goes in for the World Cup qualifiers, FUFA has organized a training camp that will happen in Jordan.

There are two planned international build-up matches against Syria on the 23rd and 26th of August 2021.
