President Museveni Addresses Wanainchi In Moyo Town On Subject Of Wealth Creation

After meeting the leaders of Madi sub-region on Wednesday, yesterday evening president Museveni addressed wanainchi at Moyo Boys Primary School grounds in Moyo Town on the subject of wealth creation.

Madi region, which years back was a hotbed of conflict and its residents refugees in neighbouring countries, is now a bedrock of peace. Courtesy of the NRM, the region is so stable that it now hosts refugees from South Sudan and the DR Congo.

The peace in Uganda today has enabled government to undertake developments like roads, hospitals, schools, electricity, water among others. All these developments are good but we must now help the citizens improve their personal incomes, that is what this campaign is all about.

The government can build a tarmac road but it will be a shame for those walking on it to do so minus shoes because of poverty. Government projects alone will not get you out of poverty, there must be individual effort and initiative,’he said.

President Museveni explains four acre model

I have spoken about commercial farming and the four-acre model. I have given your leaders a book that explains all these concepts. I urge them to continue educating you on how you can best use your land to gain maximum returns. You must shift from subsistence agriculture,’said president Museveni.

Also for West Nile, the government will establish industrial parks to support the industrialization process and create jobs. For example since you grow cotton, a textile factory would be ideal here. We spend $71m importing second-hand clothes,’he said.

The country earns $500m from coffee but we immediately send it back to buy those clothes. We are going to stop this. We must only import what is essential and only if we cannot produce it locally.

Finally, stay healthy. Prevention is better than cure. Do not fragment your land. Jointly own land as a family and only share proceeds. Conserve the environment. Stop cutting trees, vacate wetlands. I thank you for supporting the NRM government and turning up in big numbers to listen to me,’he added.
