A number of issues were discussed during this meeting regarding the recent Presidential Executive Order No.3. It addressed among others, the issue of Balaalo ownership of land in the Acholi sub-region.
In the executive order, the president promised to deal with errant and indisciplined Balaalo individuals.
He also banned all Balaalo from Northern Uganda who were to leave the area by the end of June this year.
However, the deadline was deferred to September 30.
Despite all that thought, the president again pushed the implementation of the order to October 20, 2023. He said he needed this rime to study new reports on the operations of the Balaalo in the region.
This new extension ended on Wednesday.
In the meeting, the Acholi leaders reported crimes committed by the Balaalo under names of top government officials. Crimes include land grabbing, destruction of crop belonging to locals, among other unlawful acts.
The president told the leaders that these issues will be resolved by harmonizing their relationship with the herdsmen.
“What you are talking about is very easy. You give me factual examples of the crimes being committed so that I have where to move in,” President Museveni said.
Among other notables, the Minister of Relief, Disaster Preparedness and Refugees, Hon. Hilary Onek, attended the meeting.
