President Museveni is all set to formally declare his intention to run for a historic seventh term in Uganda’s upcoming general elections in January 2026.
Today, on Saturday, June 28, the 80-year-old leader will take the first step by obtaining nomination forms for the positions of National Resistance Movement (NRM) national chairperson and party presidential flag bearer.
If successful in his bid, President Museveni will solidify his authority for an impressive 45 years, positioning him among the top 5 longest-serving presidents globally by the conclusion of his term in 2031.
During a Thanksgiving celebration for Hon. Anita Among, the Speaker of Parliament, President Museveni expressed his appreciation to the citizens of Uganda for their continued support and endorsement.
In separate news earlier reported by NEWSLEXPOINT.com, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba delivered his fate ahead of the 2026 General elections which are a couple of years away from now. The General who also doubles as the first son has in the past few months hinted at succeeding his father, Gen. Museveni for the country’s highest office.
Despite being an active military officer, he has engaged in activities deemed partisan contrary to the Forces’ code of conduct. A movement known as the Patriotic League of Uganda was even formed under his stewardship.
