According to reports, Kisoro District Police arrested Hagena on October 28, 2021. Apparently, on October 12th, Hagena strangled Joseph Gakara, 65, and dumped his body around the same area.
Elias Balika, the Kisoro district OC CID said area residents discovered the deceased’s body floating on water. By the time of filing the report, the suspect, a primary school teacher was recording a statement at Kisoro Police Station.
Meanwhile, earlier last month, two Ugandan teachers were arrested and detained in Rwanda for unknown reasons.
Gloria Ayebare and Annet Kabanyena both residents of Kibumba village in Rwingwe parish, in Kisoro district are teachers at Maranatha Nursery and Primary School in Rubavu, north-western Rwanda’s Rubavu district.
According to Kabanyaena’s close relative who spoke to reporters on condition of anonymity, Ayebare and Kabanyena informed them that they had given them a short holiday and they were traveling to Uganda for a visit.
He however said that family members waited for them to arrive at home in Kisoro in vain.
According to the source, on Thursday, the victim’s friends in Rwanda tipped them that they had arrested Gloria and Annet and taken to an unknown destination.
He said that the victims’ friends revealed that Rwandan authorities arrested Ayebare and Kabanyena while crossing the border into Uganda.
