Prince Phillip, the Duke of Edinburgh and husband to Queen Elizabeth II passed away at the age of 99. The Palace of Buckingham confirmed the passing of the Duke.
‘’It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen has announced the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness Prince Phillip, Duke of Edinburgh. His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle,’’ a Palace statement said.
As the announcement passed, no details about the death and funeral were immediately released. They will give the late Prince a royal ceremonial funeral. Rather than a state funeral, according to his last wishes.
He married the Queen in 1947. Prince Phillip also left behind a life in the Navy to become the Queen’s consort after Elizabeth ascended to the throne in 1952. In 2009; Prince Phillip became the longest-serving British consort. He also became a popular Hollywood figure in recent years after Netflix’s The Crown put his family on display through fictional series.
Prince Phillip and Queen Elizabeth II had four children together during their marriage; Prince Charles, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew, Duke of York, and Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex. He is therefore survived by eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
