Private Sector Asked To Join Government In Covid 19 Vaccination Awareness

ICT Minister Judith Nabakooba has asked the Private Sector to join government in sensitizing the masses to embrace of covid-19 vaccination country wide.

About 200,000 public officials have been vaccinated to prevent covid-19 since the vaccination started in March 2021.

” The private sector should join government in vaccine awareness if you want bars to reopen and curfew lifted, get vaccinated,” Nabakooba said.

“We have close to 5 million people in the risk category off of 50 years and above together with those having underlying health conditions. If you take in to consideration all other categories such as medical people, security, social workers, teachers the high risk group grows to about 21 million,”Nabakooba added.

She however  says less than 10% have so far gone vaccination ever since the exercise started a month ago.

Nabakooba noted that the president made it clear that we have to vaccinate up to 80% of the risk categories before full reopening.

“This shows there is still a lot of work to be done. The job of mobilizing and educating people about vaccination should not be left to government alone. The private sector players including artistes need to come out now and use their spaces calling upon the public to embrace the vaccination, “she explained.

Nabakooba however denied that extension of curfew is not political move saying  Curfew maintenance time is healthy for the country.

“Curfew helps government to maintain guidelines of covid Standard Operating Procedures to be  implemented successfully,”Nabakooba stressed.

President Yoweri Museveni on Friday said that “the government will do all it can to protect people from Covid-19 and manage those who get infected”, reaffirming commitment to contain the respiratory illness that has significantly changed how we live.

Before this Friday televised address, there had been calls, urging for changing curfew time and re-opening of sectors that are still closed.
