This comes after the President’s speech where he noted that people instead of going to hospitals are running to shrines for treatment which is dangerous.
A number of people have come out to share why this is so, especially in rural areas.
“Some stories people hear from their friends, family members that seem true and helped make them take such steps after several failed attempts to recover in hospitals and health centers,” a one Norma Allen said.
“Some people just believe in traditional healers. Others are being influenced by their friends and some fear sometimes the behavior of some medical workers and how they handle people,” a one Alfred Syrupe Osaga said.
Some people have said the incident that happened at Old Kampala is ringing in people’s heads.
This week a patient came out to say his Kidney was illegally extracted from him while at Old Kampala Hospital. Since then, people are being very vigilant while visiting hospitals.
“What happened at old Kampala hospital according to what you aired yesterday? I believe it is enough. You go for headache and you leave your kidney behind, I rather visit traditional healers ( herbalists),” a one Natuha Bylon.
Altogether, people may just need to be sensitized about Ebola and why they need to go to the hospital.
