Veteran musician Ragga Dee has revealed that the entertainment industry needs a ministry of its own to cater for its needs. The singer said that as entertainers, the government needs to think about them and start including them in the budget.
According to Ragga Dee, it’s just recently that the government has started to think of their sector. However, whatever they are given is not enough.
This is because a lot of the money that should be helping them is scattered in different ministries. He pointed out the Ministry of Tourism which takes some of the money meant for the creative industry.
The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) also takes a huge share of their money. Entertainers are then grouped in the Ministry of Gender which is given Shs 30b. However, this is little because the Gender Ministry has a lot of people to cater for such as the disabled and elderly.

“I think the government needs to think about creatives and include them in their planning. We are put in the Ministry of Gender which is allocated just Shs 30b which is not enough at all because it has a lot of people to look after. Money for the creative is scattered in different ministries such as Tourism and UCC. Therefore, we don’t profit as much as we should. I, therefore, think that the Entertainment industry should get a ministry of its own,” said the singer.
When they asked him about the recent meeting between the government and UMA/UNMF, Ragga Dee said that the entertainment industry does not contain just musicians.
There are many groups such as actors and other talents. Therefore, they need to sit down with the planners and draw a way forward. After knowing what entertainers contribute to the government, this is when a budget can be drafted for them.
