Former Manchester United and Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane has completed a move to Italian Serie A side, Como. According to credible sources, the Frenchman will sign a two-year deal with an option for a further year.
Former Spanish footballer Cesc Fabregas who is now Como’s manager is said to have been crucial in convincing the 2018 World Cup winner to join the club.
It should be noted that the club recently got promotion to the Serie A from Serie B under an impressive campaign.
“Raphael Varane to Como, here we go! Documents ready and set to be signed. Former Real Madrid and Man United CB will play in Serie A under Cesc Fabregas as manager. Understand Varane will sign a two-year deal until June 2026 + option until 2027. Exclusive story, confirmed,” transfer guru Fabrizio Romano revealed.
Varane is one of the most decorated footballers to ever play the game. He joined Real Madrid in 2011 and spent a decade there.
In that time frame, he won 18 trophies, including three La Liga titles, one Copa del Rey, four UEFA Champions League titles and four FIFA Club World Cups. He was also a regular starter for France in the 2018 World Cup which they won in Russia.
He left the Los Blancos in 2021 and joined Manchester United. The 31-year-old’s playing time with the Red Devils was however cut short due to fitness injuries.
However, when he was fit, Erik Ten Hag always counted on him. In Manchester, he also won a League Cup and FA Cup.
