Real Madrid players have shown their full support towards their star player, Kylian Mbappe. This was after a costly penalty miss in the game against Liverpool last night. With the game being led by Liverpool 1-0 courtesy of a Alexis Mac Allister goal, Real were awarded a penalty.
With Vinicius out, Mbappe stepped up but he failed to convert as Kelleher denied him. Nine minutes later, Liverpool got their own but Mo Salah couldn’t convert it but was bailed out by Coady Gakpo who doubled the hosts’ lead six minutes later.
The win left Liverpool top of the 32-team log with 15 points while Real Madrid is languishing in the 24th position. This is way far out of the direct 8 teams to qualify for the knockout stages with just three games to go.
However, Real Madrid players were not angry with Mbappe, they instead showed him support. Captain Luka Modric said that “We see Mbappé well, training well, with confidence”.
“Sometimes things don’t go his way, like the penalty. But I’m sure he will do what is expected of him.”
Bellingham also said “Mbappé penalty? It happens. The penalty miss is not the reason we lost. We weren’t good enough as a collective, they played better,”
Head coach Carlo Ancelotti said that, “Mbappé has all of our support and he will soon turn the situation around. Mbappé is an extraordinary player, we must be patient. He’s doing well and adapting well. We are with him.”
The 15-time UEFA Champions League winners have had a difficult start to the season as well as a controversial one.
They will be playing Atalanta away next in the competition. For now, they shift their attention to Getafe in the La Liga on Sunday.
