Cheptegei’s Father Speaks Out, Calls For Arrest Of Daughter’s Killer Ex Boyfriend

The father of the fallen Ugandan athlete Rebecca Cheptegei has spoken out after his daughter was pronounced dead from the burns. He immediately called for the arrest of the culprit before he flees the country to hide. Joseph Cheptegei said that the Kenyan police failed them once and they wouldn’t want to be failed another time.

Rebecca Cheptegei was pronounced dead yesterday morning after her boyfriend burned her with petrol on Sunday as she returned from church. She died while receiving treatment as the doctors revealed 80% of her body was burnt. They tried to save her life but it was impossible with all the burns she got.

Apparently, the suspect also got minor burns and is currently stable and receiving treatment. However, he hasn’t been arrested and charged with the athlete’s death. The problem apparently stems from a disagreement on the piece of land. Rebecca had previously reported him to police but they didn’t arrest him. Her father said that the daughter’s killer is a horrible man who needs to be put behind bars as soon as possible.

“I’m sad because I am not seeing any efforts being made by the government. The man behind my daughter’s death has not been arrested. He can run away. This man is not a good man. He has been disturbing my daughter prior to her death. We even took the matter to the DCI, but they didn’t respond fast enough. There was a time Cheptegei traveled to Uganda and this man followed her there,” he said.
