It should be recalled that the NRM CEC last Sunday voted Jacob Oulanyah as the official flag bearer for the role of speaker of parliament.
This did not go down well with the Kamuli woman MP Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga who was the incumbent in the role by then. She felt her influence and power was strong enough and therefore decided to run as an independent.
However, by the end of the polls, Oulanyah outpowered her together with FDC’s Semujju Nganda. He won the election with over 300 votes while Kadaga was in a distant second.
As with any political organization, the NRM has laws that govern it. Kadaga violated them when she decided to contest on an independent ticket.
News coming in indicate that the NRM could suspend the legislator, caution or even expel her. This is according to the party’s secretary-general, Kasule Lumumba.
“She will either face caution, suspension or expulsion from the NRM party depending on whether there will be a formal complaint made to the disciplinary committee over her conduct.” Justine Kasule Lumumba the party secretary-general said.
The fate of Kadaga will be one that people are eagerly awaiting to see. However, the party has always gone ahead to violate its own laws. So, we will wait to see if Kadaga is the one that falls to the sword.
We shall keep you updated.
