Rebecca Kadaga In Bujumbura For EAC Assembly

1st Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for East African Affairs, Rt Hon Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga has arrived in Bujumbura, Burundi’s capital.

She is in Burundi to attend the plenary and standing committees of the Fifth Assembly East African Community.

As soon as she arrived in Bujumbura last evening, Kadaga chaired a meeting with Ugandan members of the East African Legislative Assembly. In there, they discussed relevant issues that they front as priority areas of focus in the assembly.

Burundi’s president, Evariste Ndayishimiye recently said EAC Organs need to double efforts in enlarging the EAC internal markets. These comments pushed Kadaga to hold this meeting with her Ugandan counterparts to come up with better strategies.

She has also been championing the fast-tracking of East African Community Integration especially free movement of goods and services. She therefore recently urged EAC member states to open their borders to each other.

Furthermore, she urged EALA members to sensitize East Africans in the private sector on the achievements already made. She focused more on those in line with the pillars of integration.

In other news, Kadaga along with the council of ministers endorsed the admission of DRC into the Regional Block.

“Have just been part of the historic decision to recommend to the Summit of the Heads of State, the admission of the Democratic Republic of Congo to the East African Community,” Kadaga said soon after the council of ministers meeting ended.
