This was after her swearing-in today where she made her intentions known to the public. Kadaga who was already underway campaigning for the same role a few months back was halted by the NRM chairman.
This came due to clashes that threatened to tear the party apart since she was campaigning against Jacob Oulanyah.
Kadaga will seek a third term to chair the 11th parliament. She has chaired the 9th and 10th Houses.
“Now that the swearing-in is done, I’m going to notify my party of my wishes to run for the role of speaker. My duty will be advancing the interests of parliament. I will make sure that our Chambers are complete so that we have a huge space to chair in our meetings.”
Rebecca Kadaga also added that covid had hindered and pulled them back in developing their infrastructure.
“We are working on accommodation too for the MPs and if it wasn’t for covid-19, we would now be far ahead. Community work too will be one of our key goals this term.”
So far the race for parliament speaker has Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda of Kiira Municipality as the only confirmed runner.
Kadaga will tussle it out with Omoro county constituency MP Jacob Oulanyah in the NRM primaries. Oulanyah who has been Kadaga’s deputy for the past two terms proves a serious threat to her ambitions.
However, the NRM CEC will decide on who to run officially on the party ticket.
