Religious leaders through the inter-religious council have scheduled to meet the ministry of health next week.
Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, the current chairperson of inter-religious council said they want to know the criteria the health ministry used to keep closed worship places.
“We want the ministry of Health, which advises the president, to explain the logic behind the additional lockdown days they imposed on worship places,” he said.
Furthermore, he added that it is surprising that some of the places with very many people who don’t even follow SOPs are open.
Sheikh Mubajje says their followers are constantly asking why they closed places of worship yet allowed others to operate. He adds that religious leaders are collaborating well with the government in following guidelines as required.
“Some of our people need guidance. We need government to open these places. We have collaborated well with the government in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic. And we are still sensitizing our flock to strictly adhere to the Standard Operating Procedures ( SOPs) in curbing the spread of the virus.”
“We added our own guidelines such as performing ablution in private homes. Carrying personal prayer mats, wearing face masks before entering mosques. And social distancing while observing prayers.” Mubajje added
This time round the President closed the places of worship for 2 months. According to him, it’s not yet safe for them to open yet. However a number of people have come out to rebuke this move.
Just recently Hon. Semujju Nganda said the church is not only a place of worship but a help center where people find sanity.
