Prince Karim Al-Hussaini, Aga Khan IV, the esteemed spiritual leader of Ismaili Muslims and a significant investor in Uganda’s media and education sectors, has peacefully passed away at the age of 88 in Lisbon, Portugal, surrounded by his loved ones.
Aga Khan IV, recognized as the 49th hereditary Imam of the Shia Ismaili Muslims, took on this revered role in 1957 at a youthful age of 20.
Through his visionary leadership, he established a vast global network spanning 30 countries, including Uganda, where his investments in media, education, banking, and healthcare have left a lasting impact.
In Uganda, Aga Khan IV’s legacy is deeply ingrained in the media and education sectors. As the founder of the Nation Media Group, he played a pivotal role in promoting press freedom and professional journalism through outlets like the Daily Monitor and NTV Uganda.
Additionally, the Aga Khan Schools in Kampala have set a standard for quality education, benefiting numerous Ugandan students over the years.

Beyond media and education, Aga Khan IV’s influence extended into banking and insurance with institutions like Diamond Trust Bank and Jubilee Insurance operating under the AKDN umbrella in Uganda.
