President Museveni has warned people giving the tribalistic statements a platform to respect the legacy of the late Speaker, Jacob Oulanyah.
Museveni says, even more, the NRM party, Oulanyah had individually started uniting Northern Uganda. He advised people not to see themselves as just Northerners but as Ugandans.
“I had intended not to speak about Oulanyah until the right time, but in terms of ringfencing his position, the proposers had a point in their view but we can not walk into such a mistake while watching. Don’t look at yourselves as Acholi etc. Look at yourselves as Ugandans.”
“Jacob Oulanyah while alive succeeded in uniting the people in Northern Uganda; Lango, Acholi, West Nile and all other people. He did it even more deeply than we (NRM) had done it. We should respect his legacy by not creating new mistakes,” Museveni tweeted.

The President said this in a writing on Twitter this morning. The people from the North expressed disappointment in the NRM party for failure to endorse any one from their region to become speaker.
Since then, the tribal talk has not ceased. Yesterday, the parliament voted for Anita Among as their new speaker and Thomas Tayebwa as the Deputy Speaker.
The argument of the people from the North was that at least they should have been given the Deputy Speaker spot.
President Museveni seems not to concentrate on this because he says it’s ability before tribe. Otherwise, the Parliament already has a new Speaker.
