Fred Enanga, the police spokesperson, said earlier today that Rubongoya is expected to report either at the Nateete station or to Omoro police which is taking over the matter.
Authorities arrested Mr. Rubongoya on Wednesday afternoon and detained him for hours. They charged him for threatening violence.
Police accused the NUP SG and his driver Gordon Agaba of threatening violence against Health Minister Jane Ruth Aceng. This happened during the parliamentary by-elections in Omoro district last month.
In the evening hours of Wednesday, police released Dr. Rubongoya and his driver on police bond amid pressure from opposition leaders. Several of these had even camped outside the police station. Police and the army deployed around the station as the news of his arrest started spreading on social media.
Policer expects him to report with his lawyers to the police as part of his release conditions as investigations carry on.
“The Kampala Metropolitan Police together with that of Aswa are still harmonizing on how to handle that case. So, for Mr Rubongoya, he is expected today or tomorrow to either report to Nateete to be transported to Omoro or he can travel directly with his lawyers,” Enanga said.
NUP Spokesperson Joel Ssenyonyi said the state trumped-up charges brought against their secretary-general.
“What they say he did, we did it all together, Rubongoya was not alone in Omoro, we all traveled with him; so they should arrest all of us,” Senyonyi said.
