Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna accused the cops of using excessive force to disperse peaceful protesters. He also shared a photo of one officer whom he accused of targeting him during the protests.
“We put police on notice that we will allow only uniformed police to bear arms. Plain-clothed officers in arms will be dealt with as thugs and hired goons. They will be committed to civilian arrests as allowed per the law,” the statement read in part.
On Tuesday, the Inspector General of Police Japheth Koome disclosed at least 31 officers were injured. They also arrested 231 protesters during the Monday demos.
All these comes at the backdrop of massive protests across major cities in Kenya. The Raila Odinga led protests are geared towards the government for it’s failure to deal with the rising costs of living for many Kenyans.
