In Uganda, having a concert is one of the common ways for an artiste to make money. There isn’t so much generated from media platforms because not so many Ugandans stream music.
They wait to watch it on television, listen from radio stations or even download the music which doesn’t bring money to a musician.
According to Ruth Ngendo, it is understandable that an artiste needs money. However, staging a concert with just one hit song doesn’t make any sense.
She said that from her perspective, concerts are supposed to focus on connecting with fans and showcasing talent. It’s not just about making money without fans enjoying the music they have paid to enjoy.
“As an artist, I’m concerned that concerts have lost value. Many artists rush to hold concerts after one hit song. Concerts should focus on connecting with fans and showcasing talent, rather than being organized quickly without meaningful preparation or impact,” she said.
It should be noted that Don Zella also commented about upcoming musicians with just one hit song showing up at big concerts only to make noise for fans.
