Safety Should Come First As We Celebrate The Coming Of New Year

As the new year gets closer, the year 2020 has been many things to very many people and now, it is finally coming to an end today at 11:59 pm. To some, it has brought happiness, to others success, some achieved their long term goals. On the other side of the coin, it has caused sorrow, loss, failure, among many other things.

It is a tradition to always end the year in style, to celebrate success. Or to even just say bye to what has been a ‘’wasted year’’. To be honest, it usually is always about just ushering in the New Year as we hope for the best. We promise ourselves to do even better, or work twice as hard.

But, the times we are in are unsafe, and this is just a reminder. Anything can happen at any time and one might not have any control over it. So as we celebrate the New Year, we need to be very cautious. If you go out, at least one family member should know your location. Also, watch the company you are surrounding yourself with, because if anything happens to you, how sure are you that they will run to your rescue?

The world is fighting to stop a global pandemic but you are out with no mask on. You’re not maintaining social distance. Recently, a new strain of the virus was discovered in the United Kingdom and it is said to be more contagious than the first one.

Most of the world closed out the United Kingdom, but our poor country Uganda still receives flights from that area. And there’s us, hoping that we receive the Covid-19 vaccine in June according to the government.

I ask, with the current situation, what will have remained of Uganda, by the time the vaccine arrives in June of 2021?

We really need to be safe first, and then we shall celebrate later.

Happy new year to you all.
