Samuel Etoo, the former Cameroon football star has officiated his intent to become the president of the country’s football federation. On Wednesday, he filed his candidacy and promised to be president despite the cheating.
The four-time African footballer of the year had a crowd of supporters that accompanied him as he submitted his bid. This happened at the Cameroonian federation’s headquarters in Yaounde.
“I urge the opposite camp to be careful because we have accepted lots of things,” Samuel Etoo told reporters.
The ex-Barca and Inter Milan striker said the current leadership has offered him a position as the Vice President, something he rejected.
“I will be the next president of the federation despite all the cheating,” he declared.
He said it is high time the country rebuilt its football when he announced his intention to run in September.
The Court of Arbitration for Sport in January annulled the 2018 elections won by Seidou Mbombo Njoya. And now, they have scheduled the new elections for December 2021, a month before Cameroon hosts the Africa Cup of Nations.
The tournament has been delayed by a year due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
