This road consists of 80-Kilometre and it’s a joint Uganda-DRC construction project in Eastern Congo. It also covers the 54-kilometer integration of the Beni-Butembo stretch and the Bunagana to Rutsuru-Goma road which measures 89 kilometers.
The project coordinator, Eng. Ananthula Nagendra from Dott Services Limited says they are working in short phases currently. This is because they were guided to limit the operation to a network of only 20kms.
Apparently, it’s what the UPDF and Congolese forces can secure periodically. However, Nagendra has asked for the deployment of more troops to secure the entire road network.
This will help them work more effectively according to their engineering mapping.
“This is the only challenge we so far have. UPDF limited us to work on only 20kms stretch from Kasindi to Ululu. This is because of shortage of manpower in security and this might slow down our work,” says Nagendra.
This whole project is to go on for 15 months but this might also depend on the security situation in the area.
“We have created three campsites here at Kabirizi and another at Lubiriha and Beni to work as fabrication, culvert production, and dumping sites,” he added.
Meanwhile, Bob Mukembo, the in charge of the Mpondwe immigration department has said people are not as free as they ought to be.
“People are still not free to move, traffic flow is picking up but not to the expected level,” noted Mukembo.
