Security Guard Shot Dead By Police At Failed Fuel Station Robbery

The police yesterday shot dead a security guard attached to Saracens Uganda. The security guard apparently tried to rob the fuel station where he had been deployed at the time of the shooting.

Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigire said a police officer fatally shot the security guard dead. This is because when the police officer tried to respond to a robbery incident, the security guard shot at him.

He said the incident took place at about 9:00 am at AS Energy petrol station at Kijabijjo village, Kira Municipality in Wakiso district.

“The territorial Police at Kasangati are investigating circumstances under which one person was shot dead and another left with serious injuries,” Owoyesigire said.

Other staff members of AS Energy petrol station alerted the police that their own security guard tried to rob them.

Police officers then tried to respond, only for the guard to shoot at Police Constable Emmanuel Sande who tried to disarm him.

Owoyesigire added that the other responding officers later engaged the guard and put him out of action.

“He has been identified as Paul Lotyang. His body was later conveyed to the City mortuary at Mulago while Sande was rushed to Mulago Hospital where he is currently admitted with serious injuries. Different Police teams responded at the scene and exhibits were recovered. They have been submitted for analysis,” Owoyesigire stated.

Police took other witness statements stating that the guard held them at gunpoint and demanded the keys to the safe where the money is kept.
