Selection Of Secondary School Entrants To Begin Today

Thousands of secondary school head teachers will today converge at UMA Show Grounds in Lugogo for a selection exercise. The exercise will be to select senior one entrants into the schools after the PLE results were released last week.

Stakeholders have however called for utmost transparency in the selection of secondary school entrants to admit. Dr. Denis K Mugimba, the Education Ministry spokesperson urged the head teachers to exercise professionalism in the process ending tomorrow.

Filbert Baguma, the General Secretary of Uganda National Teachers’ Union (UNATU) also urged the teachers to give a chance to those who gave their school first choices as long as they achieved at least the cutoff points. He asked them to not leave a gap for parents who want to buy their way into the schools with points that don’t meet school standards. The former chairperson of the Secondary School Teacher’s Association has asked parents to not deal with middlemen.

On Friday last week, the Education Minister, Janet Museveni released the Primary Leaving Education results. This means that the Senior One entrants are expected to report to their secondary schools on February 20th.
