It should be noted that plans are underway for a by-election in Serere County. This is meant to fill the void left by the late MP, Patrick Okabe who succumbed to a road accident.
NUP already informed that they won’t front a candidate. They will rather back Alliance for National Transformation’s Alice Alaso.
However, Mulindwa said that Kyagulanyi won’t have any impact on the former FDC stalwart winning the election. He went ahead to add that Alaso has slim chances of winning. And her thunderous loss will confirm her exit from active politics.
“Even though Kyugulanyi goes to campaign for Alice Alaso in the Serere by-election, she won’t win. The chances of Alaso winning this by-election are less than 20%. This will be Alaso’s exit from politics.”
Mulindwa further stated that the late Okabe’s son who will be on the ballot is NRM. However, the party analyzed the situation and decided to front another candidate.
“The truth is the late Okabe’s son is NRM, but sometimes you have to analyze the situation in the area. We now have an NRM candidate in the Serere by-election,” Mulindwa further added.
Okabe’s son was nominated on the JEMA ticket after Mr Gilbert Etomet was asked to withdraw from the race. Meanwhile the NRM nominated Philip Oucor who will be their flag bearer.
Serere is now proving to be another battleground for the opposition and ruling party. The two factions have clashed in the past in different elections such as Arua, Kasese, Bugiri among others.
Despite Rogers Mulindwa’s words, Kyagulanyi has however floored them in several of these elections.
