Shakira Cancels Washington DC Concert Over Production Issues

Shakira, the renowned Colombian pop star, recently made the difficult decision to cancel her upcoming concert in Washington DC. This cancellation was a result of unforeseen challenges stemming from her previous show in Boston, which was also called off.

The concert was scheduled to be a part of WorldPride, a prominent LGBTQ+ festival.

In a statement released by Nationals Park, where the Washington DC performance was set to take place, it was revealed that complications arising from the Boston show prevented Shakira’s full tour production from being transported to Washington in time.

The singer expressed her devastation over the situation, conveying her eagerness to connect with her fans in both Boston and Washington.

Shakira shared, “Because of the unforeseen and unfortunate circumstances that affected me and other artists in Boston, my full tour production is not able to be moved to Washington, DC in time for my scheduled performance on Saturday.”

“I have been counting the days, excited to be reunited with my fans in both Washington and Boston,” she added. “I promise that I will do everything in my power to be with you as soon I can.”

Despite every effort made by Nationals Park, the concert could not proceed as planned, leading to automatic refunds for ticketholders.

Fans who had traveled specifically for the show voiced their disappointment on social media. However, amidst the disappointment, many fans showed unwavering support for Shakira during this challenging time.

One fan expressed their disappointment by saying, “Flew in from LA for this. I’m experiencing a second cancellation of this tour,” while another fan showed support, stating, “She doesn’t deserve this horrible situation.”

Safety concerns in Boston

The cancellation of the Boston show was attributed to safety issues with the stage, as identified during a routine pre-show check. This led to the cancellations of performances by other artists as well.

Live Nation, the entertainment company involved, cited structural elements that did not meet safety standards as the reason behind the decision.

Responding to the cancellation of the Washington DC show on social media, several fans said they had traveled to the city specifically to catch the performance.

Shakira is currently on her Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran tour across North America in support of her 12th studio album. Despite the setbacks, she remains committed to her fans and promises to make every effort to reschedule the cancelled shows.

Her next performance is scheduled in Atlanta on June 2nd, as she continues to captivate audiences with her music and artistry.
