Ziggy Dee rose to fame 15 years ago in the era of Bobi Wine and Bebe Cool when they were all starting their music careers.
Ziggy Dee started his music career in Tanzania because those were countries that had some advanced recording studios. However, he came back to Uganda to join Bobi Wine and other musicians.
His first song in Uganda was a collaboration he did with Bobi Wine titled ‘Suunda’. It became a hit song and it opened up more doors in his career.
As technology advanced, the new generation of musicians surfaced and swept off the old musicians that no longer had a strong root in the music industry.
Ziggy Dee was one of the artists that faded away with the young generation taking over. he is now focusing on painting and graphics.
According to Ziggy Dee, music wasn’t paying off good money yet they were putting in a lot of money and that’s why he decided to quit.
“People talk about you a lot when you’re famous, but right now, I’m concentrating on my work, painting, and graphics. Rather than bouncing up and down, I just pay attention to what I’m doing”. – he said.
He added on that he is also involved in missionary work. This gives him a peaceful mind and time to focus on his art which pays more in order to avoid hunting for peanuts.
“I am involved in missionary work; when white people visit Uganda, I can sell like four pieces of art. Therefore, painting pays me more than music could have. It also prevents me from having to go around hunting for local gigs that pay ‘peanuts,” he said.
