Sipapa and his wife Shamira were arrested in August of 2022. They were suspected to have stolen money and gadgets from a South Sudanese resident in Bunga in Kampala suburb areas.
Police revealed that the money was not found but gadgets were found in Sipapa’s home in possession of his wife Shamira as he has travelled to Tororo his home town to apparently help the needy.
Previously, the socialite and his wife were remanded on six counts of aggravated robbery but yesterday 10 more counts were added on them.
According to Makindye grade one Court Magistrate, Patience Tukundane, more 10 fresh counts of money laundering.
Prosecution alleges that he bought luxurious cars and other items using money obtained through criminal activities have been added on him.
Police’s Directorate of Crime Intelligence tracked down and arrested Sipapa in Tororo District. Detectives said they recovered $70,000 (sh266m) of what they believed to be part of the stolen $429,000 (sh1.6b).
They allegedly committed the offenses on the night of August 29, 2022, in Bunga, Kawuku Ggaba. The couple will return to court on January 19th, 2023 for further hearing of their charges following thorough investigations.
It should be noted that socialite Sipapa has been one of the biggest socialites in Kampala. However, there was no specific job he was doing.
Ugandans always wondered where he gets his money. Some of them even accused government of giving Sipapa money which wasn’t true.
