Ssemujju Nganda Declares Demise Of NRM, Accuses Museveni Of Sole Rule

Kira Municipality MP Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda has boldly proclaimed that the National Resistance Movement (NRM) exists in name only, asserting that President Yoweri Museveni has effectively dismantled the party’s leadership structure to establish himself as the sole authority.

During his appearance on NBS TV’s “Morning Breeze” show, Ssemujju emphasized that the NRM has ceased to function as a political entity, with Museveni consolidating power as an absolute leader.

His outspoken statements have sparked vigorous discussions among Ugandans, particularly on social media, raising concerns about the trajectory of governance under Museveni’s enduring reign.

Since assuming office in 1986, the NRM has been the ruling party in Uganda, securing victory in numerous presidential and parliamentary elections.

However, critics like Ssemujju Nganda argue that the party has transformed into a mere instrument for Museveni’s prolonged grip on authority, rather than a platform for democratic governance.

Erosion of democratic structures

Ssemujju’s assertions align with perspectives frequently voiced by opposition figures and civil society organizations, highlighting the hollowing out of democratic mechanisms within the NRM.

They argue that Museveni has centralized power by marginalizing dissent, circumventing internal party procedures, and eliminating controls such as term and age limits that could constrain his leadership.

While the NRM presents itself as a robust political entity dedicated to Uganda’s progress, Ssemujju’s statements contribute to a growing narrative portraying Museveni as having undermined the core values of the party.

The future of the NRM, especially in light of Museveni’s enduring presidency, stands as a central topic in Uganda’s political dialogue.

Ssemujju’s social media post has reignited conversations surrounding Uganda’s political future and the legacy of Museveni’s rule, underscoring the ongoing debate on the direction of governance in the country.
