Stop Overestimating Yourselves – Museveni To The US

The President of Uganda, H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has lashed out at the West by telling them to stop overestimating their influence and power. This is after the US administration revealed that starting in 2024, Uganda amongst other countries would be removed from the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA).

Apparently, AGOA is the cornerstone of US economic engagement with different sub-saharan countries in Africa.

Uganda therefore, won’t be part of it, especially after enacting the LGBTQ law that made homosexuality illegal in the country.

However, according to Museveni, the West has a tendency to underestimate African freedom fighters. These countries always think that Africa can’t move forward without their help.

The President said that Uganda has the capacity to achieve growth and hit her targets. This is whether with the help of these countries or not.

“Some of these actors in the Western World overestimate themselves and underestimate the freedom fighters of Africa. On account of some of the freedom fighters making mistakes of philosophy, ideology and strategy, some of the foreign actors, erroneously think that African Countries cannot move forward without their support.

Certainly, as far as Uganda is concerned, we have the capacity to achieve our growth and transformation targets. Even if some of the actors do not support us,” said the President through his X page.

He also asked the citizens not to be worried about these developments. Whether the US continues to discourage its investors from investing in the country or not, Uganda will hit her targets.

Additionally, he said that it was good the American Government avoided the mistake of de-funding the procurement of HIV drugs for our 1.4 million People on those drugs.

But even if they had done so, Uganda had a contingency plan to secure these drugs on its own.
