The move comes in a bid to minimize crowding and control Covid-19 infections in Kampala.
‘’Our law enforcement team will continue to ensure that all streets are devoid of vendors. We are encouraging that selling in irregular spaces to move into markets and the outskirts of the Central Business District (CBD),’’ Kyofatogabye Kabuye, the minister of state for Kampala city said.
He further said the government has greatly improved infrastructure such as roads, drainages, street lighting in the suburbs among others.
He said these developments have attracted development that quickly and competitively provides workspaces in Kampala suburbs.
As he eased lockdown, President Yoweri Museveni relaxed restrictions on arcades and malls. He, however, ordered for their hallways and verandahs to be cleared of vendors.
This also included street vending among others. He also emphasized the observance of SOPs to control the infections in the facilities.
On Friday, Uganda’s Covid-19 positivity rate stood at 6.7, which registered a rise from 4.3 on Thursday. Total infections were 2,856, while total recoveries stood at 94,039.
