George Mutekanga, the assistant commissioner in charge of private schools and institutes of higher learning made the remarks at launch of the vine toolbox. The vine toolbox is under Acts Fund, a non governmental organisation.
Acts Fund revealed that it is running a rehabilitation campaign for teachers, parents and students. This is going to be ahead of the reopening.
They are creating programs for children to address anxiety as the sudden change in their routine might affect them. The launched tool box has three books that talk about parents, teachers and learners.
Mutekanga said his department is working together with the Ministry of Education to support parents, learners an teachers mentally.
“We need to provide psychosocial support to children, teachers and parents who have been affected by Covid-19. We’re coming up with a strategy to ensure that we support these people mentally. We have learners who have lost their parents, guardians and sponsors and people who are going through a lot of hardship during this pandemic more especially teachers in private schools.”
Well, this has been a concern for so many experts who say the mental health of learners and teachers is important. Otherwise, school may never be the same again if this is not done.
