Tayebwa’s remarks were more directed to Subaru and Golf car drivers. And we all know how this group drives recklessly. In fact even memes have been made out of them about how they feel as if they own the roads.
Now, Hon Tayebwa has asked the government to extensively review the transport system in Uganda especially on reckless riving.
The MP then proceeded to reveal that he always gives way to all Subaru and Golf drivers since they drive as if they are possessed.
“When I see someone driving a Subaru or Golf car, I give way. They drive as if they are possessed.”
The Ruhinda North county Mp remarks also follow a recent fatal accident including a boda accident at the Northern Bypass which claimed Kampala businessman Mark Bahati, Hon Thomas Tayebwa’s in-law.
Road accidents are one of the major causes of death in the country. Most hospitals in the nation have accident patients piled in there.
Apparently 4 people die from boda boda accidents every day. 4,159 road fatalities were recorded in the 2021 Annual crime and Traffic Roads Safety report. 1,390 of these involved motorcycles while 528 were passengers on motorcycles.
Shocking footage was recently release by Police showing how reckless riders are while on the road. This even prompted the Speaker of Parliament Hon Anita Among to direct the deputy Inspector General of Police Major General Geoffrey Tumussime Katsigazi to find a lasting solution.
