Suspected Motorcycle Robber Fatally Shot At Police Outpost

In an incident that unfolded at a local police outpost, a male suspected motorcycle robber met his demise in a confrontation with law enforcement officials.

The incident occurred on Tuesday when law enforcement authorities received a report of an alleged motorcycle robbery in progress along Nakivubo water channel.

Responding swiftly to the call, police officers stationed at a nearby outpost intercepted the suspect, who was attempting to flee the scene on a stolen motorcycle.

A brief but intense confrontation ensued between the suspected motorcycle robber and the police officers. Despite repeated warnings to surrender, the suspect allegedly brandished a weapon, posing an immediate threat to the officers’ safety.

Meanwhile in response, one of the officers, acting in self-defense, discharged their firearm, resulting in the suspect sustaining fatal injuries.

The body of the deceased was taken to city mortuary Mulago for a postmortem as investigation Proceed said Kampala metropolitan deputy police spokesperson Luke Oweyesigyire in a statement on Tuesday.

Robbery along Ssezibwa road

He further added that according to preliminary investigation show that the same motorcycle was used in the recent robbery along Ssezibwa road on November 15, 2023 where a gang that was using motorcycles robbed He Wei, a Chinese national of $190,000.

The police have initiated a comprehensive investigation into the incident and will conduct a thorough review to determine the circumstances leading up to the use of lethal force.

The officers involved in the incident will be placed on administrative leave, as per standard protocol, while the investigation is ongoing.

The use of force is a last resort and is only employed when there is an imminent threat to life or when necessary to protect innocent individuals from harm.

The incident serves as a reminder of the risks faced by law enforcement officials in their daily efforts to maintain public safety and combat criminal activities.

The police will continue to work diligently to investigate and apprehend individuals involved in criminal acts while upholding the principles of justice and the rule of law.
