Uganda’s representative in the 200m at the ongoing 2024 Paris Olympics Tarsis Orogot has asked for a diplomatic passport to enable him to compete easily.
This is after he failed to make the finals of the men’s 200m which are slated for tonight.
Orogot was a surprise rise in the games especially to Ugandans since he was unheard of before to the majority. The Ugandan won heat two in the quarterfinals at the ongoing Olympics after he posted a time of 20:32.
However, the Ugandan failed to make it to the finals of the 200m after he came 6th in his heat with a time of 20:64. The winner was US’ Kenny Bednarek with a time of 20.00. Dominican Republic’s Alexander Ogando Bautista came second (20.09).
Canada’s De Grasse finished third (20.41) and South African Maswanganyi (20.42) came fourth. Heat two was won by Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo with a time of 19.96. US’ Noah Lyles (20.08) and Zimbabwe’s Makanakaishe Charamba (20.31) were the other two athletes to qualify for this heat.
Tarsis Orogot took to his X page to express his disappointment with a simple ‘Eh’ to which the Ministry of Education and Sports congratulated him with a ‘well done.’
The sprinter seized this opportunity to request for a diplomatic passport. He said that this will enable him to travel easily and participate in different competitions across the world.
“Oh nice! Now that you are here, Can you organize for me a diplomatic passport so I can travel and compete easier around the world..Yessir!!”
Apparently, Uganda hasn’t had a male sprinter in the Olympics since 1996 when Davis Kamoga won a bronze medal in Atlanta.
