During the Coronavirus pandemic, many employees are concerned about getting laid off. But the truth is, no job is secure. There are fears of salary suspensions, but this doesn’t mean one should stop working or else they risk losing the job.
Under the same circumstances, one might be concerned about facing a salary cut, but still tasked with the same workload every day. At the end of the day, you can either face an unfortunate layoff, or you might end up quitting yourself. Especially due to the toughened conditions.
Living in the times;
Restaurants are largely affected by the pandemic because if there are no customers to serve, there’s no job for the waiter. However, he has learned how to ride a motorbike and is now delivering, what happens to him at the end of the month?
Schools were closed, but teachers were not fired. A few weeks after the closure, online lessons spread across the country, and teachers got back in business. Even though there were downsides to this, the teachers still delivered, with some doing it out of their own pockets. With all that, a question will still arise at the end of the month; what happens?
Company executives, football players, chefs, all these people keep their jobs in such situations but are most likely to face salary cuts. And when that time comes, the question is still about what will happen.
A certain man somewhere has worked the whole of lockdown, however, he last received payment in June. And I can bet on it that there are hundreds more, even thousands that are facing the same situation.
Someone lives in his one-room apartment and owes a landlord 5 months of rent with only one hope of income. But when the end of the month approaches, the organization has insufficient funds to cater for salaries. Then another question arises, ‘’what are we working for?’’
How it feels;
It starts to look like the employee who can’t ask questions to risk being fired is working to pay his boss. After all, they always show up to the office driving their big posh cars. These evidently don’t use water to run their engines. They take 2-hour lunch breaks and eat at the fanciest hotels. While the “donkey” at the office survives on breakfast from home at 6 am.
In most cases, the employee looks forward to that small allowance at the end of the day but never sees it. It is even luck that they had an extra shs.1000 in their pocket to use as transport home in the evening.
Some things really have to change. You and I both know what those ‘’things’’ are. The concern is, however small an employee’s salary is, at least let them have it. It could be what saves him/her something you don’t know about.
