There Will Only Be Peace If UPC Wins Soroti City East By-election – UPC’s Pascal Amuriat

The flag bearer of the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) party in the Soroti City East By-election, Pascal Amuriat, has said that there will only be peace if he and his party win.

Short of that, there will be bloodshed. This is especially if either FDC or NRM win this tightly contested election.

Pascal Amuriat further said that he’s sure there won’t be any vote rigging in this election. Whoever wins it will have won genuinely and massively.

“If any of the other two candidates (Moses Attan and Herbert Ariko) win the by-election, we would have bloodshed. UPC comes in peace. I come as a uniting figure in this by-election.

I don’t expect that there will be rigging. Whoever wins this race will have won genuinely. We just want the Electoral Commission to ensure that there’s no security interference,” said Amuriat.

He also added that there were attempts to deny UPC candidature but they overcame this. Amuriat further said that they are participating in this election to win and not just competing.

The election has seen almost all the top bigwigs in the political circles camp in Soroti. There were heated campaigns yesterday as FDC had its top guns in. Dr. Col Kizza Besigye, the Kampala lord mayor Erias Lukwago, party president Patrick Amuriat Oboi are in the area campaigning for their candidate.

President Museveni was also in the area to campaign for the NRM flagbearer. Museveni said that politics is about a party that will always solve people’s problems. And according to him, it’s only the NRM that can solve these people’s crises.

He, therefore, called upon the voters to vote for the NRM candidate. This will ensure ‘effective service delivery through proper coordination with the NRM structures and programs.’

The election will go down on the 28th of July. The main competition is between NRM’s Herbert Ariko and FDC’s Moses Attan.
