Three Ebola Vaccines Trials To Commence Today

The Ministry of Health is set to hold trials for three ebola vaccines developed to battle the Sudan Virus. The virus has so far claimed the lives of 43 people.

The Minister of State for primary health, Margret Muhanga presented a statement before parliament yesterday. In the statement, she said that the three vaccines are from the UK and the US.

She also revealed that the main aim of the trials is to evaluate the efficacy of the vaccines to protect various Ebola patient contacts within 29 days of contact.

Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng, the Health minister has assured Ugandans that all people participating in the trials have consented to the vaccination.

“Trial preparations include preparing protocol, getting consent, putting in place refrigerators and many other things. Any contact of a confirmed case will consent. Nobody will be given a vaccine without consent. So we are not using anybody as a Guinea pig, we are requiring consent,” she said.

However though, as she presented the report, Muhanga revealed that the ministry is still waiting for funding from the government.

She informed parliament that the ministry drafted and presented a three-month response plan that cost shs76bn.
