Golf legend Tiger Woods suffered serious leg injuries to his legs after his car crashed and trapped him inside. Emergency responders reached the scene of the accident and found him trapped inside but conscious.
The accident happened on a stretch of California road known for speeding and accidents.
Tiger Woods, 45 drove shortly after 7 a.m. PT in Rancho Palos Verdes, near Los Angeles. As he drove, his SUV crossed a median and went across two lanes of road before hitting a curb. It then hit a tree and landed on its side off the roadway in a bush nearby.
A deputy sheriff of a Los Angeles county arrived at the scene first and said Woods still sat in the Driver’s seat with his seatbelt on. He also said the golfer managed to tell him that his name is Tiger.
The 15-time major champion appeared lucid and calm, but potentially in shock. He, however, seemed reluctant on the case of his injuries at the time according to Deputy Carlos Gonzalez.
Firefighters arrived at the scene and used a pry bar and an axe to free the golfer. They broke the windshield with the axe and used the bar to pry the seats and metal from around Woods’ legs.
They put Woods in a neck collar, attached leg splints, and used a backboard to get him through the giant hole in the windshield. They put him in an ambulance that rushed him to the hospital in a serious, but stable condition.
