Do bloggers ever do research?
After this incident, its only right to say our research skills as journalists are still lacking. Why would you punish a story without clear information about it. The issue is everyone wants to be relevant even when there is no need to be. It will never hurt you to be the last to publish a story but when it’s true than being the first when it’s false, it will cost you credibility in the public eye.
So many times people have come out to complain of being defamed by the media over things they say they didn’t do. This cuts across t to all news. Recently just after the death of Sheikh Nuhu Muzaata, some bloggers started announcing the death of Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago and yet he is still alive.
There should be a felt penalty for publishing false news because it misleads the public and ruins the media image. Perhaps when one gets sued, the rest will learn.
