Snowboard goggles didn’t exist back then, but they do now. They are polarized to save the face from harmful UV rays. They fit so firmly so that no one has to worry about moving unsteadily during the laps
Like the regular, everyday sunglasses, these will protect the eyes from the snow-reflected sun and keep the vision of the eye sharp when going down the slope. Any crashes can be prevented and they help to make it to the clubhouse in one piece. These can prevent the snow glare.
Tips one must know before getting the snowboard goggles:
- Fit to the face: The first tip is to find a pair of goggles that fit perfectly to the face. The snowboard goggles must fit comfortably to the face. There should be no gaps around for air and snow to get inside. A person’s eyes should sit at about the centre of the lens.
- The kind of lens: One should prefer a low light lens if they are a nightrider or if the resort doesn’t get a lot of sunlight. The low-light lenses come in colours like yellow, orange, and pink. But one should prefer a darker lens if the resort gets a lot of sunlight like brown, grey, mirrored, and polarized.
- Big frame: One must make sure that the goggle has a big enough frame. If a person feels like he is looking through a tunnel, then the goggles must be tiny. The goggles frame must be big enough that one can ultimately see out of the peripheral vision.
- Goggles with helmet: One must make sure that the curve of the goggle fits well with the brim of the helmet. Also, make sure that there is no significant gap between the goggles and helmet.
- Goggle price: Always find a goggle that is in your price range. At some lower price range, one can find goggles with excellent basic features. At a higher price range, one can find goggles with a good frame, quality, and multiple lenses. One gets what they pay for.
It would be fun and helpful to try to tackle one of the oldest and most annoying problems in skiing, and that is the prevention of goggles from fogging and have an enjoyable day out skiing.
Rules to prevent fog problems:
- Do not allow goggles to get wet or stay wet. The reason for goggles fogging, no matter how better the goggles are, is because of the moisture traps somewhere in the goggle body and the heat coming from the human body while skiing causes the moisture to vapourize, creating fog. So the dryer you keep your goggles, the better.
- Do not allow snow to accumulate on the goggles. If it gets collected somewhere on the goggles, the heat from the body and the breath will melt the snow, and water droplets are seen cascading down inside the goggles. And if that is going to happen, you have to stay indoors for 20-30 minutes to dry out the goggles.
- Always better to use a helmet with goggles. One can get snow accumulation by skiing in the storm that piles up along your goggles. But a proper helmet with a visor that fits perfectly to the face and goggles might help.
- Don’t always completely cover the face. Try to avoid obscuring the face and head entirely because normal breathing and breathing through the mouth can also cause fog inside your goggles as it has no way to escape out into the air.
- Don’t leave the goggles in the backpack or zipped up in the jacket pocket or the car. There will be a humid environment, so the moisture doesn’t go away, and it just freezes and stays on the next day.
