He said that the country can potentially attract more visitors with a number of initiatives put in place to drum up visibility.
He further described POATE as a major driver to the creation of awareness through whipping visitors into the country.
The Minister also hopes that earnings from tourism would double economy recovers to pre-pandemic levels.
Butiime turned to the private sector and advised them to level up to acceptable international standards. He called upon UTB to enforce and ensure compliance with the set standards saying this will provide the expected experience or better.
Apparently, the sector has received directives by the president in the tourism sector. He said if these directives are implemented, the tourists will be able to land at the different parks and areas in private jets.
Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) CEO, Lilly Ajarova said the expo brings together industry stakeholders to discus potential benefits in the sector.
“The Expo will shift its focus to sustainable and responsible tourism, which is emerging as the next trend for tourism development in Uganda and world at large,” she said.
Furthermore, she said stakeholders being present shows the spirit of support for one another through intra-regional trade. This year’s expo has in attendance 100 hosted buyers from around Africa and beyond.
Some of these include Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Rwanda, Tanzania, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Austria, Germany Egypt, Spain and Ethiopia.
Over 300 exhibitors are showcasing their offerings at POATE 2023. These include regional tourism boards, international tour operators and associations, hoteliers, international media and airlines.
